Instead of everything going KABOOM; only some things should go kaboom.

Overloaded wires should melt and set on fire
T1 utility poles should catch on fire and burn if they're extremely overloaded.
Turbines should lock themselves up and become a damaged block - You could make a special texture for a damaged block and change or void it's functionality
Relays should have wear over time depending on the cycles it's put through. You could make different relay tiers to increase their longevity.

The large shaft-style systems should DEFINATELY go boom boom. High-Voltage failures should also explode.

Make players have a chance take damage and get negative effects if working on energized equipment, like connecting/disconnecting machines or wires. You should add protective equipment to allow a player to work on energized equipment without the risk of taking damage.

We already had plans for more realistic damage. This was going to be handled somewhere with realistic cable and component failure modes.
