Be great to see some animations of SSS, SST, sea-ice etc, and maybe also some interior anomaly fields (e.g. along some of the key meridional transects) to check the transient evolution of the response. These might help sharpen the winds -> Ekman -> buoyancy flux / WMT -> DSW adjustment hypothesis.

Ooops just read over all the more recent posts and plots and saw that Steve had already suggested these transect animations. The surface ones might also be instructive.... Thanks all. - Matt
