It would be really handy if there was an option to decode/encode text metadata as plain text.

Do you mean exporting just the zTxt chunk as plain non-compressed text? Or do you also mean importing that into a file with no metadata?

I was imagining both. One motivation is that I want to peek at the data I'm copying to see if I haven't copied wrong data. But also could be useful to just quickly edit an icon state name etc
