[AWS Lambda] What is the purpose of the proxy+ endpoint?

Hi! Could somebody explain to me the purpose of the proxy+ endpoint?

There are two endpoints:
ANY - https://xxxxxxxxx.execute-api.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/dev/
ANY - https://xxxxxxxxx.execute-api.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/dev/{proxy+}

tl;dr it serves as a catch all at that end point.
