Hi,

I think my database which has grown over likely more than 10 years has finally reached the point where it can no longer be opened. According to what I've found it seems that I've hit the OS limit in handles. The problem is not the allocated memory, I've increased that before and increasing the limit in the .ini any further does not help.

Any idea how can I get rid of some feeds (maybe directly in the DB) so I can open again and then start cleaning up?

hmm restart your system and dont start other programs so handles are not used.
once you manage to start rssowlnix do a cleanup.

Unfortunately this did not help. After learning that this is not a SQL database and several failed attempts to somehow open the DB file with tutorials more than 10 years old, I finally had a more simple idea: I booted up a Linux VM and tried to open my profile with the Linux version of RSSOwlnix. Works like a charm. ;)

Unfortunately even after deleting about 70 % of the total News items, especially in those Feeds and Bins with the highest numbers, and optimizing the DB afterwards, I still cannot get the profile working on Windows again, it keeps crashing with the same error.

now after a cleanup, try starting with fresh profile and just move or copy the rssowl.db file over. if it is not the db itself that has the problem but something else, this should help.

well if you want to mess around with db try: http://www.softsea.com/review/db4o-Object-Manager.html
but be sure to make a backup.

you can also try older versions of rssowl/rssowlnix, just copy the rssowl.db file over as written above. basically you want to try differenct eclipse rcp versions.

i just run into the same issue, neither old database nor increasing memory helped,
what did help was just deleting workbencht.xml,
whatever that is supposed to do, it seems it is not needed as it works after it has been deleted

Oh right, thank you. I had tried that before, but the optimization process always fails. I tried now without "Improve application performance" and it worked, but it didn't fix the search filter issue unfortunately.

the folder of the rssowl.db, make a backup and try the following:

inside rssowl.db folder, delete all files except rssowl.db and its backups in same folder
then try another cleanup if indexes are not being rebuilt after normal start

all those extra files should reappear (although differently named etc)

The Optimization Process isn't working, even if I create a completely new profile and transferring only the rssowl.db file. It was like this since I had opened this Thread and it's still like this.
