Need to figure out how to :

  • Identify all COMIDs with drainage areas outside of CONUS (currently, identifying areas where land uses don't sum to 100% - is there a better way?)
  • Determine if other variables are impacted (for example - is the drainage area correct, or only the drainage area in CONUS?)
  • Determine a retain/omit rule (if COMID is 25% Canada, should we keep or toss? 50%?)
  • Filter out all COMIDs based on above rule for predictions

The gages2.1 streams address this with a workaround by identifying any watersheds where the sum of their land covers does not equal their watershed drainage area (see "1_fetch/src/get_sb_data.r", lines 199-204). If the nhdPlusTools R package is used to identify this issue for all comids (outside of gages2.1), lines 199-204 should be updated as well.

Based on discussion with NHGF, switching this to an enhancement. Addressing issues like this is part of future NHGF plans. We can safely drop these reaches from our model building and prediction reaches.
