Description

This master issue outlines the core developments and enhancements aimed at improving communications and networking for the UBC Rover in 2023. We intend to fix a GNSS base station to the communications base, automate parabolic antenna tracking toward the rover, and implement network speed and data transfer monitoring.

Objectives

  • Implement a fixed GNSS base station at the comms base
  • Lightweight / easily carriable by one person
  • Min height of 1.9 m
  • Max height determined by competition rules:
    https://circ.cstag.ca/2023/rules/#rover

Milestones

  • Brainstorming and preliminary research consisting of understanding the requirements, finding existing solutions and assessing the technology that will be used.
  • Conceptual designing process consisting of sketching, prototyping on CAD software and feasibility check
  • finalize initial CAD models and possible with simulation & FEA
  • manufacturing, assembly and field testing

At the moment, the designing process is still very preliminary so any suggestions are welcome either on discord or in the comment section below.
