BinMaps

Introduction

BinMaps is a unique application designed and developed for the SLO Climate Coalition (SLOCC). The application offers a revolutionary approach to managing and locating different types of waste bins – trash, recycle, and compost. It's an initiative to encourage community participation in waste management, promoting environmental responsibility.

Features

  • Upload Bins: Users can upload and share locations of trash, recycle, and compost bins.
  • Customization: Each bin entry can be customized with photos and detailed descriptions.
  • Interactive Map: Incorporates Mapbox to provide a user-friendly and engaging map interface.
  • User Accounts: Users can create accounts, log in, and manage their entries, with secure account handling provided by Firebase.

Technologies

This project harnesses several modern technologies:

  • Frontend: Developed with React for a dynamic user interface.
  • Backend: Utilizes Node.js for server-side functionality.
  • Database: Employs Firebase for data storage and user account management.
  • Mapping: Features Mapbox for interactive and responsive mapping capabilities.

The primary goal of BinMaps is to streamline the process of locating and managing waste disposal sites, specifically for the members and affiliates of the SLO Climate Coalition. By fostering a platform for community engagement, BinMaps aims to contribute significantly towards local environmental sustainability efforts.
