Hello,
I would like to suggest the following feature:
UseCase:

  • Sending Waypoints to Chartplotter e.g. Garmin, Raymarine, etc. from Freeboard-SK
  • Most Chartplotters do only accept waypoints through NMEA0183 and Ethernet ( but ETH are proprietary protocols)

Feature:

  • Right click on Waypoint in Freeboard-SK and add menu "Send WP over NMEA0183"
  • Waypoint will then be sent through configure NMEA0183 serial device with sentence WPL.

Thanks!

Best Stefan

Initiating an action is certainly in the scope of Freeboard-SK but the transmission is a function of the signal K server.

Is the intended trigger for sending the sentence when a waypoint is set as the current destination or are you intending to just select and send?

Reading the WPL documentation...."When a route is active, this sentence is sent once for each waypoint in the route, in sequence."

I would expect that any transmission of this sentence would be in alignment with standard NMEA operation.

This page might also provide some insight and background re support for the sentence wpt and rte sentence support
