For imple image peprocessing like binarization, comparing different algortihms is straightforward, you an see the pictures or even compute their diffs. For more structurally complex documets likePAGE, it would also a --export-image that would export the rendered canvas dirctly to a file. IIUC Aletheia alreadys supports this.
I would espcially love having a "page-image" processo running between steps and snapshotting the progress so far that would allow me to prove to my ever-scrupulous digitial humanist colleage when new the new results are in how better column detection boosted WER and that CER was nonsense all along!!!!
If it's a license issue I'd propose a watermark. Not a fan of either watermarks or getting genies back into bottle, but whaever works for you.
I you have a good idea on HOW to do it but not the time right now, maybe @kba and @maxnth are willing to sink some time into this.
