A long time ago, @yochannah asked,

I just noticed this very nice acknowledgement from BioJava in their new paper https://journals.plos.org/ploscompbiol/article?id=10.1371/journal.pcbi.1006791 and it made me wonder if we should have formal "how to cite us" guidelines somewhere? (Maybe I haven't spotted them).

We should add some standard acknowledgement texts that can be used by member projects and any publications about projects that received OBF funding (e.g. GSoC).

Quoting the older Biopython paper's introduction:

The Open Bioinformatics Foundation (OBF, www.open-bio.org) hosts our web site, source code repository, bug tracking database and email mailing lists, and also supports the related BioPerl (Stajich et al., 2002), BioJava (Holland et al., 2008), BioRuby (www.bioruby.org) and BioSQL (www.biosql.org) projects.

And then the acknowledgements:

The OBF hosts and supports the project.

(Note the OBF no longer literally hosts the repository and website.)

Quoting the BioJava5 paper introduction:

The BioJava project is also supported by the Open Bioinformatics Foundation (https://www.open-bio.org/), a non-profit group dedicated to promoting the practice and philosophy of Open Source software development and Open Science within the biological research community.

And their acknowledgments:

We would also like to thank the Open Bioinformatics Foundation (OBF) for continuously supporting the project.

Maybe we could have suggested acknowledgement text for member projects, something like that seems fine?

Let's try to decide what we should say in the "how to cite us" text and where we should add it.
