Vimsettings

These are mainly my vim settings which are used for programming on linux with C/C++ and python.

You have to install vundle before u want to use vim with plugins. There are maybe some bugs in vim better to use neovim:

https://github.com/neovim/neovim

, it is also possible to use these predefined settings for neovim and vim.

You can also download neovim from here:

https://mattermost.com/blog/how-to-install-and-set-up-neovim-for-code-editing/

Vundle is described here, there are also other plugin managers:

https://github.com/VundleVim/Vundle.vim

Building vim by your own

If you want to build vim by your own, you can clone it from any repo, important vim must have python 3 support for using all plugins.

Before install missing files for building it:

sudo apt-get install checkinstall
sudo apt-get build-dep vim
sudo apt-get install mercurial
sudo apt-get install python-dev python3-dev ruby ruby-dev libx11-dev libxt-dev libgtk2.0-dev libncurses5 ncurses-dev

Now clone it from the standard repo:

git clone https://github.com/VundleVim/Vundle.vim.git ~/.vim/bundle/Vundle.vim

Or build it from source:

https://medium.com/@SoftwareEngineeringNotes/building-vim-from-source-4177d9edd3fe=
https://github.com/ycm-core/YouCompleteMe/wiki/Building-Vim-from-source

Go in the according directory:

cd vim

For building vim use these settings for example, if you want to use vim with python3:

git clone https://github.com/vim/vim.git
cd vim/src
./configure
--with-features=huge
--enable-python3interp
--enable-cscope
--enable-gui=auto
--enable-gtk2-check
--with-features=huge

On Centos and perhaps Ubuntu, you can use these settings:

./configure
--with-features=huge
--enable-multibyte
--enable-rubyinterp=yes
--enable-pythoninterp=yes
--with-python-config-dir=/lib64/python2.7/config/
--enable-python3interp=yes
--with-python3-config-dir=/lib64/python3.6/config-3.6m-x86_64-linux-gnu/
--enable-luainterp=yes
--enable-gui=gtk2
--enable-cscope
--prefix=/usr/local

Now build and install it:

make -j8
make install

Start vim

./vim

Then invoke inside vim:

:echo has('python3')

,and check if there is python3 support.
