We missed a bug in globalStats in our compass testing in E3SM-Project/E3SM#4832 because of the limited number of variable we validate:

compass/compass/ocean/tests/global_ocean/analysis_test/__init__.py

Lines 52 to 54 in 8b72187

'analysis_members/globalStats.0001-01-01_00.00.00.nc':
['kineticEnergyCellMax', 'kineticEnergyCellMin',
'kineticEnergyCellAvg', 'temperatureAvg', 'salinityAvg'],

We should consider validating many more to catch significant problems.
