MIPs

What is a MIP?

A Maker Improvement Proposal (MIP) is a document that regulates and defines the behavior of Maker Governance, MakerDAO, or the Maker Protocol. They are standardized documents voted upon by Maker Governance. MIPs can be amended and removed.

The Maker Improvement Proposal Framework (MIP0) defines the Maker Improvement Proposals (MIPs) Framework for all subsequent MIPs to utilize.

Current State

The MIP Framework currently consists of 17 MIPs. Recent changes introduced by the Endgame have deprecated a large batch of MIPs (hence the seemingly haphazard numbering) and locked the framework in place by disallowing the creation of new MIPs. However, the existing MIPs can be amended.

List of MIPs

The MIP Framework currently comprises 17 MIPs, out of which five (marked with an asterisk) have been set to be deprecated.

MIP Description
MIP0: Maker Improvement Proposal Framework Defines the Maker Improvement Proposals (MIPs) Framework for all subsequent MIPs to utilize
MIP16: The Weekly Governance Cycle Defines and formalizes the Weekly Governance Cycle to provide a predictable weekly framework for Maker governance decisions
MIP24: Emergency Response Defines emergency and urgent situations for the Maker protocol, as well as the process for handling them
* The Core Unit Framework MIP Set (MIP38, MIP39, MIP40, MIP41) The Core Unit Framework MIP Set is a set of MIPs that defines the structure of Core Units
MIP51: Monthly Governance Cycle Defines a monthly Governance Cycle that provides a predictable framework for Maker governance decisions
* MIP55: Special Purpose Fund MIP55 defines Special Purpose Funda (SPFs), a tool used to fulfill a narrow, specific, or temporary objective where approved funds are locked in escrow

MIP106: Support Scope Bounded Mutable Alignment Artifact Defines the Support Scope, which covers rules that regulate various tasks of ecosystem support, including governance process infrastructure and management, SubDAO and Ecosystem Actor support, and the Public Good Purpose System
MIP107: Protocol Scope Bounded Mutable Alignment Artifact Defines the Protocol Scope, which covers all processes related to developing and maintaining NewChain and its core protocol, modules and smart contract ecosystem, and its bridges to other blockchains, etc.
MIP108: Accessibility Scope Bounded Mutable Alignment Artifact Defines the Accessibility Scope, which covers accessibility and distribution efforts, and regulates user-facing frontends of MakerDAO Core and SubDAOs
