There seems to be a confusing with the way "gender" is applied in game. Gender is, linguistically speaking, the perceived aspect of something based upon labels, hence the genders of dude or gal or whatever.
In game, gender is attributed to the actual genitalia when it should mainly be what's applied to just the body itself. Instead of "gender detection" I'd like to suggest "genital detection", not only because its funnier and more raunchy, but also because "gender detection" seems kinda redundant, because you're detecting the gender already when you see the person dressing a certain way. Typically the word used is "sex" to describe genitals, but I would advocate that "sex detection" would be an equally confusing description as "gender detection", largely because in this game sex = everyone everywhere all at once yes.
There are other instances I've notice the use of the phrase "gender" being applied to genitals, but this is the main one that's confusing. I'm by no means a coder, nor do I have free time between work and masturbation, but if someone could go through and ctrl+f "gender" and give them a once over and change the word to "genitals" where needed, it'd make things less confusing.

Observant also lets you do things like trick people by seeing what appeals to them and using it. Re: the detective you trick in the police station after visiting the apartments.
I would like to see observant used more to see shortcuts and to bypass certain challenges, and really let it earn it's name.
A second tier form of observant could be 'Sherlock Holmes'... (just kidding... well, 50% kidding)

I wish that use of observant were excluded in favor of getting to hunt for clues or getting hints from some contact.
