How does the announcement that swift is now open source affect the world of languages? Does it affect the longevity of Node?

@Jbarget not really...
The only reason we use Node is because JS is in the browser. (JS is the only language that's _everywhere_). If swift had a 1-to-1 mapping to a browser-standard language then we could all switch to using it... but that's unlikely.

A more significant open-sourcing is _Chakra_: http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2015/12/microsoft-to-open-source-chakra-the-javascript-heart-of-its-edge-browser/ but I don't see many people switching from V8...

don't worry about reading the Chakra article, its irrelevant for the foreseeable future.
