To satisfy multiple curation paths. For example, say experiment A is imported from source X into zooma. A curator then fixes this experiment; we have Ac. Now, experiment A is reloaded into the original source database, so zooma has to reimport A (call this A'). We now have two versions of the same experiment. We can reapply Ac to A' - A'c, but now we should deprecate Ac as redundant.
Diachron may provide support for this scenario.
