What does the "feedback color" do?

I've changed the --fbb and --fbf settings but fail to see any difference. I don't understand what "feedback" could mean here. There are many ways an application could provide feedback, for example, with the "highlight" options of --hb and --hf, but that's not what's meant by feedback here.
