Let's assume that an user has 1 xch as one coin in wallet, creating an offer of exchanging 0.1 xch will lock the entire 1 xch in pending balance. This is understood by Chia enthusiasts and can be solved by splitting the coin by sending 0.1 xch to yourself before creating the offer.
In my opinion, this current model is unintuitive. If Chia is to reach mass adoption, it should be more user-friendly. Undoubtedly, many less tech-savvy users will be confused with how the current offer system and coin set model work, and thus angry that their whole balance is locked rather than just the small part they want to use.
In order to solve this problem, I propose implementing an "auto-split" option in Chia wallet. The default option of creating offers could remain as-is: instantly create an offer, locking a whole coin. However, if the user chooses to tick the auto-split option (and optionally pay a tx fee), the wallet will perform a blockchain transaction that splits the coin into one used for the offer, and return the rest to spendable balance. I see this to be of crucial importance for user experience and a significant upgrade to the ease of use of Chia offer system.
