Year is showing as Y,YYY #64

When I open a metadata file which has been edited using Tagger, the Year field shows YYYY, but the column on the left lists it as Y,YYY (as per my comment above). When I open the same metadata file using another audio editing software, the Year field is completely blank. I suspect this is because the field will only accept 4 characters (YYYY), not 5 (Y,YYY). When I enter the album year in the Year field using the other software, and then reopen the file in Tagger, now the column on the left shows the correct year format (YYYY). If I choose not to view the Year column in Preferences, so I cannot see the Y,YYY format, the Year field is still blank when I reopen it with the other software. |

However, the problem is more serious than what you describe below in
your email.
When I enter the YYYY value in the Year field on the right hand pane of
Tagger, yes - it does show correctly, regardless of whether the Year
column is viewed on the left. But when the Year column is viewed (by
setting Preferences), the year shows as Y,YYY in the left column - even
though the right pane shows correctly.
YYYY values entered on the right pane of Tagger, which show correctly,
are NOT recognized by my audio editing software (Fission 2.3.1).
Thinking it might be a problem with Fission (which I have used for many
years), I have now opened the file using iTunes. No Year is listed!
You said "it will work with other apps such as iTunes," but this is not
the case. Doesn't work with Fission, doesn't work with iTunes. But
when I take the same file,and enter the Year value using Fission, the
Year is correctly listed in iTunes.
When I use Tagger to open the two files edited with Fission and Tagger,
both show the correct YYYY format in the right pane. However, in the
left column, the Fission file shows YYYY but the Tagger file shows
Y,YYY. Thus, there is a problem with Tagger, which I hope you will fix
soon. As a user of spreadsheets and databases, I suspect it is because
the format for the Year field is defined incorrectly.
In case you're not aware, I sent you £5 already, because my initial
impression of Tagger was really good. It solved a problem I was having,
on the spot! I will continue to support you, if you continue to fix
bugs and add new features. I am in the early stages of rebuilding my
iTunes library, which got messed up before I understood the difference
between filenames and metadata file tags. It was also compiled years
ago, before today's software and databases were available, and before so
much A/V was available free for download. I also use MusicBrainz Picard
heavily, for downloaded tracks. I used to be a beta-tester for software
developers like you, and I'm happy to test any new versions you wish to
trial.

Thanks for that. I use Fission as well so I was surprised at it not working. The images below show, that it can work after editing the year in the right hand pane.
I was not able to reduce the bug. What kind of audio file was it e.g. mp3 or m4a? Where it did it come from? |

My files have all been M4a. I see yours is MP3. They originate from
various sources, both downloads and manual entry. A few files have been
tagged by the MusicBrainz Picard database, but sometimes I like to
change the CD release date to the original release date for the vinyl
album. Tagger, in theory, makes this easy to do in batch, whereas using
Fission, I need to go one-by-one. I also use AudioHijack Pro to record
audio, and then Fission to separate individual tracks, but the problems
I've had with Tagger have not included these tracks.
BTW, is there a way to batch edit the album cover artwork in Tagger?
Using Fission, I need to paste one-by-one into each metadata file. Yuck.
I'll try to reproduce the problem with MP3, but see if you can with

Hi Bilal. Since I last wrote (see below), I've had a chance to do some
more testing.
If I use Tagger to edit the Year field of a MP3 file, as you did, then
it shows in Fission. If I edit a M4a file, it shows in Tagger, but not
in Fission (as previously reported). If I convert this same M4a file to
MP3 using Fission, the Year no longer shows in Tagger, and also doesn't
show in Fission.
The original file must be MP3, in order for Tagger to work with
