New subscription start_ack?

I am trying to port a GraphQL chat interface from AWS AppSync and on a successful subscription AppSync returns:
{ "id":"subscription_id", "type":"start_ack" }
but I am not seeing gqlgen return anything except on error. I could return an empty message on success but that won't help existing apps and doesn't seem like the right thing to do. In the code I found a reference to the streaming operation and apollographql but was unable to find anything about subscription start_ack. Is there a way to enable subscription confirmations, get the raw websocket stream to send it myself (something in context?), or add it (I wouldn't mind sending a PR when I get it working, tips on where to add it welcome)?

I ended up making a patch and PR that I needed to rework into a sub-protocol but then found out my companies clients don't actually use start_ack so stopped working on it. Leaving this comment here in case anyone else runs into this situation and wants to know where it went.
