Changelog (Full)
General Bug Fixes
- Fix a crash if you toggle any art style options too many times (about 10 times) without advancing the text.
- Fix the "Skip CGs" option not working in some cases
Stuck Sprite Fixes
- Fix cases of the 'stuck sprite' bug related to lipsync, by swapping textures instead of calling drawBustShot.
- Even with this fix, we've still had some reports of multiple of the same sprite on the screen at the same time, but it seems to go away at the next scene transition.
- This issue only affects chapters 6-8
- This issue seems to happen at certain points in the game if you click to advance text while an animation is running, depending on the timing of your clicks. Users who like to click through the voices likely have a higher chance of seeing this bug.
- Send us a screenshot if you see this issue happening
- The github issue for stuck sprites is at SPOILERS
https://github.com/07th-mod/higurashi-assembly/issues/45
SPOILERS, but since it contains screenshots of the game, it contains spoilers.
Original/Ryukishi mode fixes
- Fix sprite positions not matching original game when there are 3 sprites on the screen at once.
- Our base mod has spaced out some sprites to better fit the widescreen aspect ratio in some cases. This fix attempts to put them back to their original position when you are using 4:3 Original backgrounds.
- Fix portrait (zoomed in sprite) images not being cropped when using 4:3 mode (you would need to use Console sprites with OG backgrounds)
- Fix lipsync when using Console sprites in Ryukishi mode (when the UI is 4:3)
Mod Menu Updates
- Fixes issues raised in: 07th-mod/higurashi-assembly#61
- Added tabs for Gameplay, Graphics, Audio, and Troubleshooting to separate options
- Graphics presets are now "Console/Mangagamer/Original" instead of "ADV/NVL/Ryukishi"
- Made sprite/background/text window options less confusing by making the following options independent of each other:
- Sprite style (used to be changed when changing the "art set")
- Background style (used to be changed via an override, and would reset when "art set" changed)
- Background stretching (used to be part of the background selection)
- Text window appearance (used to depend on the graphics preset)
- Dedicated "Custom" graphics preset
- Custom preset is no longer indicated by a asterisk (*) next to a default preset - instead it appears as its own preset
- This preset is activated when you modify any of the default presets (or just click "Custom")
- The values in the "Custom" preset are saved, even if you activate one of the default presets. This allows you to switch between your custom preset and any of the default presets to see how it looks
Watanagashi Voice and Graphics Patch v5.0.3
Which .zip
file should I download?
Download the Watanagashi.Voice.and.Graphics.Patch.zip
.
In short, we are changing some things on our backend, and to make sure the links don't break, this particular release will have two .zip
files, which are both the same file. The next release will only have one zip file.
Changes
This release fixes the "OST Remake" option (used to be called "Italo BGM").
Note that if you installed the "OST Remake" option via the installer in the past, this would cause your "New BGM/SE" to be overwritten with the "OST Remake" files. If you want to fix this, you can either do a full re-install via the installer, or do the following:
- Download https://07th-mod.com/rikachama/audio/MangaGamer-Answer-BGM-SE-Restore.7z
- Extract the archive to a temporary location
- Overwrite the
HigurashiEp02_Data/StreamingAssets/BGM
folder with theBGM
folder in the archive (located in the game folder0
We recommend using our installer to install the mod.
- Note that the OST Remake is no longer an option in the installer - it's now installed by default (but not enabled)
Manual users should also extract this file to their StreamingAssets
folder: https://07th-mod.com/rikachama/audio/Higurashi-Remake-BGM.7z
More manual instructions on the wiki, under "Optional Q/A Downloads": https://07th-mod.com/wiki/Higurashi/Manual-Installation/
Changelog
- Fix "OST Remake"/"Italo BGM"
Watanagashi Voice and Graphics Patch v5.0.2
This release allows you to switch between BGM/SE while the game is running (using the F10 mod menu), rather than it being an install option.
We currently support the "New" BGM/SE that comes with the unmodded game, and the "Old" BGM/SE which came with the original Higurashi release, as well as the OST Remake (only for the question arcs)
This release also properly supports the timings (when each song will play and stop) of the "New BGM" option (previously the new bgm would play with the old bgm timings). This only affected the Answer arcs, as the Question Arcs currently share the same timings.
We recommend using our installer to install the mod.
For users installing manually, you'll need the below archives:
- All manual users: https://07th-mod.com/rikachama/audio/Higurashi-OG-BGM-SE.7z (already listed on the Manual Install page)
- For users who are updating from an older install, you'll also need: https://07th-mod.com/rikachama/audio/MangaGamer-Answer-BGM-SE-Restore.7z
These folders should be put in your HigurashiEp02_Data/StreamingAssets
folder (they don't contain the usual directory structure of the other archives!).
Changelog
- Add BGM/SE Switching
Watanagashi Voice and Graphics Patch v5.0.1
Hello, everyone! This is just a small update (that should also be rolled out to all chapters very soon) that is meant to address a recent problem with some users being unable to compile the scripts on their own. This should alleviate the black screen issues and greatly speed up the first boot after installing the patch. If you are already running the previous version, there is no need to update.
Stay tuned for more updates in the near future!
Changelog
- Patch now includes precompiled scripts
- This should fix an uncommon issue where the game cannot compile the scripts due to circumstances we're currently investigating
Watanagashi Voice and Graphics Patch v5.0.0
This release requires a new Graphics pack update. It can be installed automatically using our installer, or installed manually here
Hello, everyone! After a lot of delays and honestly a ton of work, the original backgrounds by Ryukishi are here! There are a few compromises, though, and we would love to hear your opinions on that.
The compromises about this feature:
- Due to engine limitations, we cannot offer a 4:3 aspect ratio just like the original. The backgrounds had to be cropped a bit to fit into 16:9
- Also due to a few scripting limitations, you will get console CGs while playing the game with full original graphics. These won't happen a lot, so you should be seeing the original graphics at least 95% of the time
The good news is that now you can have all the features and fixes we did over the years with the original graphics set. That should make the game a lot more pleasant to play compared to the (very) old voices-only patches.
As always, we're listening to your feedback, and we hope to see what you think about this release. We know the compromises to get the original graphics back in the game won't be enough for the purists, so please let us know what you think about it after you give it a try. As always, we welcome fixes that we can't do ourselves, otherwise we wouldn't be on GitHub of all places!
Other than that, this patch also brings a number of fixes and changes to make the game better overall. It took a long time to check each change, so excuse us for the long delay in deploying them.
Not sure what comes next other than more inevitable fixes, but we'll talk again sometime soon.
Changelog
- Fixed several translation inconsistencies
- Fixed several typos
- Fixed some name inconsistencies
- Updated several text images for consistency
- Added support for the original photo backgrounds (press P to cycle between the available modes)
- Other minor fixes

Watanagashi Voice and Graphics Patch v4.9.0
This is a cumulative cross-release for all chapters
Hello, everyone! We're back with another box of fixes and improvements for all chapters. Unfortunately, this time, there's not a lot to be excited about. Progress on new features slowed down since we're bracing ourselves for the last chapter that should be coming in the next couple months.
Changelog
- Fixed typos
- Improved spelling consistency.
- Added a new textbox
- Players using default or lower opacity settings should not notice this immediately. This change is directly aimed at players using high opacity settings, around 70% or more. The new textbox is slightly higher and should give the text a full black background, greatly improving readability
- Changed the logic of chapter jumping
- This change should fix instances where you cannot jump to certain chapters due to certain script flags
